An Appalachian Summer Festival on the campus of Appalachian State University , is regarded as one of the country's leading regional arts festivals. For nearly a decade, the festival has been named one of the "Top Twenty Events in the Southeast" by the Southeast Tourism Society. The 2010 festival features outstanding entertainment such as Patti LuPone, Janis Ian and Karla Bonoff,
Ralph Stanley, Amy Sedaris, and John Pizzarelli.

Karla Bonoff have been creating music for decades. "Songs of a Generation" is a celebration of song, featuring two of the most powerful songwriters who came of age in the 1960's. Janis Ian's hit songs include, Society's Child, At Seventeen, Jesse and countless more from her 27 albums. Karla Bonoff has written Someone To Lay Down Beside Me, Home, All My Life, and Tell Me Why. Her songs have also become hits for Bonnie Raitt, Wynonna Judd and Linda Ronstadt.

A frequent guest on The Late Show with David Letterman, she co-authored the novel Wigfield with Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert. Her 2006 guide to entertaining, entitled I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence, stayed on the New York Times best-sellers list for over 12 weeks.

Claimed as "A Pride of China," Tianwa Yang of Beijing began studying the violin at the age of fours winning six out of the seven violin compositions she entered. At the age of 10 she was accepted to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Two years later, following her performance at the 1999 Beijing Music Festival, Isaac Stern invited her to study with him in the U.S. At the age of 13, she recorded the 24 Caprices of Paganini, making her the youngest interpreter of the composition worldwide.

John Pizzarelli has a multi-faceted career as a jazz guitarist, vocalist and bandleader. Pizzarelli has been playing guitar since the age of six. Performing the songs of Nat "King" Cole, Frank Sinatra and composers Richard Rodgers and George Gershwin. Pizzarelli has established himself as one of the prime interpreters of the Great American Songbook.
