We offer multiple locations throughout the High Country allowing you to choose your ideal fly fishing adventure. Multiple combination packages are available to help maximize your mountain experience. Fly Fishing Float Trips
Our professional Orvis endorsed guides will customize an unforgetable day on some of the most pristine rivers and streams in the High Country based on experience, current conditions of the waters and personal requests. Journey into the heart of the river with our guided float trips in a private boat. One boat will comfortably accommodate up to two guests plus your Orvis endorsed guide. There are multiple rivers from which to choose based upon personal requests, the current conditions of the waters and the recommendations of your guide. Chetola offers both half and full-day float trip adventures that provide the opportunity to land trophy trout, Brook Trout, Rainbow Trout, Wild Brown Trout and Smallmouth Bass on either private or public waters.

What is a Float Trip?
Journey into the heart of the river with our guided float trips in a drift boat. One boat will comfortably accommodate up to two guests plus your Orvis endorsed guide. There are multiple rivers from which to choose based upon personal requests, the current conditions of the waters and the recommendations of your guide.
What is a Casting Clinic?
For beginners or seasoned anglers, our Orvis endorsed guides offer expert instruction on the lawn at Chetola Lake Instruction is specialized to fit all proficiency levels, so you can learn brand new skills or improve upon the ones you already have.

Can I fish year round?
Yes, don’t let cold air or precipitation deter you! Fishing during late fall, winter, and early spring is considered some of the best fishing of the season.
What is your Cancellation Policy?
For all Fly Fishing Adventures we require 100% trip total at the time of booking and have a 30 day cancellation policy.

Do I have to be a Chetola guest to book a fishing trip?
No. We welcome the opportunity to guide anyone on a fly fishing adventure, whether you are a Chetola guest, a local, or a guest at another hotel. Just call the Concierge, Zak Linkins, at 828-295-5509 or book online.
Do I get a room discount when booking a Fly Fishing Trip?
Yes. While fly fishing packages are available with or without overnight accommodations, overnight accommodations are priced lower when purchasing a room and fishing arrangements together. Value-priced accommodations are available for our Chetola Lodge and The Bob Timberlake Inn.
Do I need to get a Fly Fishing License?
Fishing Licenses are required for all Fly Fishing Trips. Please confirm the exact location of your fishing trip before purchasing a license. Location may change based on weather. Casting Clinics do Not require a fishing license. Signed Waivers are required for every participant. Trips take place in NC and TN.
What equipment should I bring with me?
Chetola guides can provide all fly fishing equipment, from rods and flies to waders and nets. We recommend that you dress for current weather conditions and bring a raincoat and sunglasses for eye protection. We do have a Fly Shop on Property.
How many people can go on a fishing trip?
The number varies based on whether you choose a wade trip versus a float trip. Guides prefer a ratio of 2 people per guide, so the number will depend on how many guides are available for a particular day and time. Given proper booking time, we can accommodate groups up to 30.
How should I dress for my fishing trip?
Dress for comfort and flexibility (sweats, t-shirts, flannel shirts, rain jacket) and, most importantly, in layers. You may want to check local weather for Boone or Blowing Rock before packing. You will be provided Orvis waders that will go over your attire.
What is the weather generally like in your area?
Our Appalachian Mountains are considered a Temperate Rain Forest so be prepared for potential wet weather during the week.
Summer (April-August) Lows can be 30F–40F. Highs will be around 60F-85F
Winter (Nov-March) Be prepared for cold, can get into negatives with wind chill. Highs can get into the 40F–50F
Fall (Sept-Nov) Can get cold, lows from 20F-30F. Highs will be around 40F-70F
Where do I meet the guide?
You will meet your guide at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock unless otherwise previously agreed upon with your guide. Our guides will strive to meet you at the most convenient place for you and to your fishing location.
Are there restrooms at your fishing locations?
Most of our fishing destinations are located deep in the woods or in the heart of the river. If you require indoor facilities, please inform us when reserving your fishing adventure so that we can best accommodate your needs.
Do you have any Handiaccessable fishing locations?
Yes. We are proud to be working with organizations such as Healing Waters that encourage those with special needs to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of being outdoors, working with others, and experiencing the rejuvenating activity of fly fishing. We have several guides who are experienced and proud to be able to offer equipment that better assists in specific situations.
How do I properly tip my guide?
Gratuity is not included but is appreciated.
If your guide goes above and beyond your expectations then a tip of 20% is considered typical in the guide service industry.
Can I request a specific guide?
Yes, we are proud to have professional guides that specialize in different areas and understand that you can create a bond with a wonderful instructor!
Guide requests are not guaranteed but will try to be honored as best as possible.
We reserve the right to change guides based on guest requests, trip specifications, illness and emergencies.
Cancellation Policy:
For all Fly-Fishing Adventures we require 100% trip total at the time of booking.
There is no charge for trips canceled 31 days in advance and guests will receive a full refund.
If a guest decides to cancel a trip within our 30 day cancellation policy, for any reason, they
agree to forfeit 50% of trip total in order to compensate the guides lost work days. Only your
guide or the Fly Fishing Manager have the right to reschedule a trip within 30 days prior of the
trip date.
'No Show's' or trips canceled 48 hours before trip date will forfeit 100% of trip total.
For refunds, we recommend purchasing Travelers or Vacation Insurance.
Please be advised that Fly Fishing Trips do not include pricing of your Fishing License or gratuity.
Casting Clinics or group activities performed at Chetola Lake or on Chetola property, Do Not require
fishing licenses.
A fishing license can be purchased the day of the trip for $15-$45, depending on residency and fishing
location. Please do not purchase fishing licenses until advised by your guide to do so- Trip location
may change based on weather conditions.
Our guides are happy to accommodate our guests in various weather conditions however, we reserve
the right to cancel or reschedule trips if we deem conditions are unsafe. We do not routinely cancel trips
due to rain or snow and will provide necessary fishing equipment based on weather conditions.
Trips that cannot be rescheduled due to bad weather will receive a full refund for that day.
You are responsible for dressing for appropriate mountain weather conditions, bring a raincoat
and eyeglasses/sunglasses for eye protection. We do have a fly shop on property.
Chetola does not provide transportation, all participants are expected to have their own means of
transportation to and from the predetermined fishing location. We can provide van rental pricing for
groups.
All full day trips (8 hours) include a complimentary Deli Lunch at no additional cost.
Refreshments will be provided but you are also encouraged to bring and snacks, drinks, and
prescriptions that you will need during your outing.
In-door Restrooms are not guaranteed during your trip. If you require special conditions, or if our
guides need to be aware of any needs please let us know as soon as you are able so that we can make
proper arrangements for your trip.
Handiaccessable options are available and encouraged. Please let us know when booking your trip if
anyone in your party will be bringing any medical equipment or need extra assistance. Ex. Chairs, easy water access, wheelchairs, braces, prosthetic appendages, PTSD, hip replacements, Rotator Cuff replacement or any other issues including mental health, that we need to be aware of.
Only anglers are charged for fishing. Friends, family, and group members that are associated with the
party and Do Not want to fish, are more than welcome to come and watch! Please be advised that we
will have to charge the full trip price if that person decides to fish during any portion of the guided trip.
