Agenda

Day 1

The Physical Body; Sleep, Eat, Move

The physiological factors essential for reaching an optimal state of being will be addressed in our first workshop session. We will discuss human sleep history and modern sleep hygiene with the intention of being able to better assess and correct our own sleep hygiene habits. We will also discuss basic nutritional guidelines and strategies to help guest develop a healthier approach to eating. In addition to addressing food as fuel for our bodies, we will look at our emotional relationship with diet.

Movement is a key physiological component that must be present in order to truly experience health and wellness. On Day 1 we will be explaining how and why movement has such a profound impact on not just our physical bodies, but on our emotional bodies, or bodyminds.

Our focus will be on the emotional aspect of our bodies and how and why our physical bodies are the best tools we have to improve our emotions, and vice versa. Instructor Bio

Davidson Reid began his career in 1987 performing with the Joffrey Ballet in New York City. While in New York, Davidson began to study and teach Pilates with many of the nation's most prestigious Pilates instructors and studios. This is where his deep understanding of human anatomy and movement first began to take shape. After living and working in South Africa and Europe primarily as a dancer, he returned to New York City and began teaching Pilates full time. As Power Pilates' first Senior Teacher Trainer, Davidson relocated to Atlanta, where he still resides, and has certified hundreds of Pilates instructors in Atlanta, around the US, and internationally.

In 2008, Davidson discovered Redcord Suspension Exercise and was immediately drawn to how simple and effective a tool it is. Today, Davidson is a Redcord educator. Redcord can be found at Pilates studios throughout Atlanta as well as in many gyms and physical therapy practices.

In 2010, Davidson met and began to study with Thomas Myers, a widely respected anatomist and considered by many to be the world’s leading expert on the manual body work technique known as Structural Integration. More commonly known as Rolfing, Structural Integration (or S.I.) was the tool that Davidson had been missing during his entire career. With Mr. Myers' urging, Davidson enrolled at Kinesis Myofascial Integration (KMI), Mr. Meyers' school of Structural integration. After years of study, including cadaver dissections and several months of immersion at Mr. Meyers' home and school in Walpole, Maine, Davidson became a board-certified Structural Integrator and went back to work incorporating this profoundly effective tool into his practice.

Today, Davidson is the proud owner of Physical Culture in Brookhaven, where he devotes himself to his clients and the integrated system of Pilates, Redcord, and S.I.for the attainment and maintenance of efficient and uniformly developed physical structure.

"I am dedicated to the liberation of the human spirit and the realization of individual potential beginning with myself. I work with intelligent, time-tested tools and integrated techniques proven to deliver what I believe to be the first requisites of joy."
