Journey into the heart of the river with our guided float trips in a private boat. One boat will comfortably accommodate up to two guests plus your Orvis endorsed guide. There are multiple rivers from which to choose based upon personal requests, the current conditions of the waters and the recommendations of your guide.

  • Trout Float Trips on the Watauga, South Holston and Catawba rivers

    CANCELLATION POLICY: For all outdoor adventures we require either a deposit of 50% trip total or full payment at the time of booking. Final Payment due two days before your trip start date and may be paid online or be collected automatically day of the trip. There is no charge for trips canceled 15 days in advance and will receive a full refund of their deposit. Trips that are canceled within our 14-day cancellation policy will forfeit the entirety of their deposits. 'No Show's' or trips canceled day-of by a guest will forfeit 100% of the trip total Our guides will be happy to accommodate our guests in various weather conditions however, we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule trips if we deem our conditions are unsafe. We do not routinely cancel trips due to rain or snow and will provide necessary fishing equipment based on weather conditions. We encourage you to dress for appropriate weather conditions, bring a raincoat and eyeglasses/sunglasses for eye protection.

    Guests whose trips are canceled by Our Guides due to unsafe weather will receive their full refund.

    A wade adventure is the most popular of type of fly fishing, with the angler moving through the banks, rivers and streams to acquire the best position for reeling in the perfect catch. We offer multiple locations throughout the High Country allowing you to choose your ideal fly fishing adventure. Multiple combination packages are available to help maximize your mountain experience. Some locations are seasonal but our Orvis endorsed guides will be happy to accommodate our guests in any weather as long as they deem it safe for both the guest and the ecosystem.

    Private Fly Fishing Adventures

    Private waters are privately owned sections of rivers that do not allow the general public to fish. These secluded and secure locations offer the best chance of hooking a fish since these spots are only fished by our guests. Chetola Fly Fishing is the oldest Orvis endorsed lodge in North Carolina and has the best and most beautiful private waters in the High Country offering year-round fishing. If monster trout are on your list, we have world-class trophy sections.  See for yourself the beauty of a wild rainbow versus a dull stocked trout or search for the prize of the East Coast, our elusive wild brook trout. Our Orvis endorsed guides will be happy to recommend locations based on experience and expectations. All private water trips are offered in half-day sessions, if you would like full-day options please ask about combining two half-day trips.

      Public Fly Fishing Adventures

      With more than 3,000 miles of public trout waters available in North Carolina, we have become one of the best locations for fly fishing enthusiasts of all ages. While public waters are open to the general public, it is highly recommended to be guided by our professional Orvis endorsed expert who will find the ideal location: based on the time of year and where the fish are more likely to be found. Public waters offer the best fishing October through June 1st but are always a wonderful place to learn how to fly fish year-round!

      Learn to Fly Fish

      Our half-day fly fishing adventure is a great way to learn and put it to use all in the same day. A wonderful combination of our casting clinic with a public water wade trip.

      Casting Clinic portion includes:

      •        Familiarization of Orvis® equipment and tackle
      •        Casting lessons
      •        Fly tying explanation
      •        Gear and water education
      •        Reeling and catching techniques
      •        River etymology

      Fly Fishing Portion includes:

      • Half-day fly fishing trout adventure on public trout waters for Rainbow, Brown, and spring-raised Brook Trout
