Close to 30,000-holiday illuminations light up Chetola beginning at dusk on Friday, November 25th, and running through the end of Blowing Rock Winterfest, January 29, 2023. As you stroll around Chetola Lake, view glittering ice skaters, a Nativity scene, a colorful train, Rudolph’s “Holiday Catch”, and much more. The Festival of Lights is free and open to the public nightly. Park and walk around Chetola Lake, sipping on hot cocoa (available in Timberlake's for purchase).

Pro-Tips:
-Weeknights afford less traffic and wait times
-The lights come on at dusk and end around 10 p.m.
-Expect to be greeted by our security pros at the entry gate
-Timberlake's Restaurant is open to "cruisers" until 9 p.m. Sun-Thurs and 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights

Story Time with Santa and Mrs. Claus
*every 30 minutes, 5 pm-7:30 pm Friday and Saturday evenings (reservations required, as seating is limited)

Santa and Mrs. Claus have agreed to offer a reading of a few Holiday Classics. Families with kids will be able to say hello, hear them read a few Holiday classics, and write a letter to Santa to leave with him. Offered every 30 minutes, beginning at 5 pm (last reading at 8 pm) both Friday, November 25th and Saturday, November 26th. Story Time with Santa and Mrs. Claus is a free event, however, we recommend donating to Crossnore School & Children’s Home. Reservations can be made with Highlands Recreation by calling 828.295.5535.


Carriage Rides, 5pm-9pm (reservations required)
Guests of Chetola Resort will enjoy this Holiday tradition of a carriage ride around Chetola Lake to see the Festival of Lights. Adults, $40/ each & Kids (ages 3-12), $20/ each. Payment must be received at the time of booking. Reservations can be made with Highlands Recreation by calling 828.295.5535.


Bonfire, S'mores, & Chili, 5pm-9pm
On Friday and Saturday evenings enjoy a toasty bonfire, delicious s'mores, and warm chili by our lakeside firepit. There will be a cash bar for adult beverages, bowls of chili, and complimentary s'mores for guests of the resort.
